Unlike batteries that need new infrastructure, these fuels fit into existing systems, making them ideal for planes, trucks, and ships.
Popular forms are ethanol and biodiesel. Bioethanol is made by fermenting sugars from corn or sugarcane. It comes from natural oils and fats. They can run in current engines with few changes.
More advanced options include biogas and biojet fuel, made from leftover organic waste. These are being tested for planes and large engines.
But there are challenges. Production is still expensive. We need innovation and raw material sources. Land use must not clash with food production.
